Chocolate Shortbread Logs from Seventeen Magazine

Another New Year’s Eve treat from my childhood.

2 cups flour
1/2 butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup walnuts finely chopped (I don't think I did the nuts since I was too cheap)

Combine first four ingredients and shape into 2 inch logs.  Bake on ungreased sheet 350 degrees for 13 minutes.

Melt chocolate and shortening over hot water.  Dip ends of each cookie in chocolate and place on waxed paper. Sprinkle with nuts and chill.  Makes 6 dozen.
