Maple Whole Wheat Bread

Because Vermonters love their maple syrup, and it makes any recipe better.

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups water (I use warm water)
4 tablespoons maple syrup
2 tablespoons olive oil

Do you really need instructions? All right, here you go. If you are using a bread machine, put the ingredients in the machine in whatever order your machine prefers. Then, uh, push Start.

If you are making bread by hand, mix the ingredients (adding more flour during kneading, if necessary), knead for a few minutes, let rise til double, shape into loaves and put in loaf tins, let rise until 1 inch above the top of the tin. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes and then 350 for 15-18 minutes. Makes one large loaf or one regular loaf and one mini loaf.
