This recipe is adapted from Fix-It and Forget-It Recipes for Entertaining. Makes 10-12
servings. I generally use all pork instead of half beef/half pork.
3 thick slices bacon
1 pound beef stewing meat, cubed
1 pound boneless pork, cubed
2 cans diced tomatoes (or rotel tomatoes and green chilis)
1 celery rib, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
Garlic to taste
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup water
3 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 pound carrots, sliced
1 can sweet corn, drained
1 pound cut up okra (optional)
- Fry bacon in skillet until crisp. Remove bacon but reserve drippings. Crumble bacon.
- Brown stew beef and pork in bacon drippings.
- Combine all ingredients and put in slow cooker.
- Cover. Cook on low 8 – 10 hours
